OPEN DOORS

Open Doors is an evangelical organisation that works hard to support Christians in countries where they are persecuted for their Christian faith and beliefs. For 60 years, since it was founded by Brother Andrew (picture above) in 1955, they have been smuggling bibles into closed countries. Originally the Soviet Block of Communist atheist states that emerged after the Second World War. Unfortunately the number of persecuting states seems to have grown each year.

What Open Doors Do

Open Doors exists to strengthen the church in the most hostile places. In over 50 countries, Open Doors is supplying Bibles, training church leaders, delivering Bible-based literacy programmes and supporting Christians who suffer for their faith. In the UK and Ireland Open Doors works to raise awareness of global persecution, mobilising prayer, support and action among Christians.

The Open Doors World Watch List highlights the 50 countries where it is most difficult to live as a Christian. These are the places where followers of Christ must keep their beliefs hidden and where living the gospel means facing beatings, imprisonment, discrimination and abuse. We have been following a different country each month in our Church Magazine.

"I am grateful to open doors who for over half a century have been doing this kind of work and have had a great influence in my own life since the early eighties. I know this organisation has the utmost integrity and they do their research very carefully and well." - Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury

"We have to live a life that is more revolutionary than that of the revolutionaries." - Brother Andrew
